liebel architekten has completed a house in niederbayern (lower bavaria), germany, with a vibrant façade of perforated copper. the compact residence is divided in two levels: an open ground floor where most common living areas are located; and an intimate upper floor that encloses private rooms such as bedrooms and bathrooms. various terraces and greenery surround the ground level living area, which opens on all sides to the surrounding landscape through windows and sliding doors. at the same time, the façade encloses an open terrace within the layout of the house, where a large tree grows towards the upper level and through the opening on the roof.all images by brigida gonzález

liebel architekten has wrapped the house in the perforated façade, which, especially on the upper level, conjures up beautiful plays of light. its construction allows it to adapt to the mood of the residents with openable elements, offering two possibilities: openness and views; or retreat and security. the compact dwelling, whose two levels are divided in ascending level of privacy, is surrounded by nature, with several terraces that remain behind the copper façade and form a smooth transition toward the exterior.

the ground level is in direct connection to the exterior landscape, where trees, greenery, and an outdoor pool provide a serene and idyllic atmosphere. together with copper, visible screed and oak complete the house’s materiality, forming a subtle background for everyday living.
