french architecture office LAN has completed a 30 unit social housing complex in the fréquel-fontarabie area of paris. as the finalizing piece of an urban redevelopment project in the réunion quarter of the city, the apartments are organized throughout four structures and provide affordable living while paying specific attention to sustainable building. the façades feature large openings toward a central plaza and garden, while screened with folding steel shutters for regulated privacy and thermal gain.

the complex’s operable façades toward the interior of the site are contrasted by black concrete walls on street-facing elevations. the structures feature solar panels on their roofs, which help to supply energy into the buildings.
