australian pool residence conceived as a place to live and entertain

‘lahinch house’, a contemporary private residence is conceived as a place for entertaining. designed by lachlan shepherd architects the clients requested for an impressive scheme where when guests stay, it would function both as a comfortable home, with hotel-like elements. thus, the house had to function firstly as a home to its two full-time occupants (and their pet dalmatian) and secondly each guest bedroom is provided with its own en-suite and robe areas. essentially their guests can ‘check-in’ to their own space before moving into the main living zones of the house.

lachlan shepherd architects responded with the planning to the site surrounds by positioning the scheme to face the golf course to the south and east. full-height glazing wraps the lower floor and invites views towards the private garden and rolling golf greens, sand dunes, all the while blurring the distinction between outside and inside.

internally, the main kitchen and living zones are tied to the integrated plunge pool, which is heated year-round, providing a practical, usable pool and doubling as a water feature which is viewed from all living zones. the spaces have been left open-plan; there are no walls diving the lounge, kitchen, dining, and sitting zones but instead, are separated visually and spatially by the sunken lounge area.
