Arpon Arquitectura builds family dwelling in argentina

In the gated community of La Deseada in Argentina, Arpon Arquitectura has completed a residential project for a family of five where social gatherings have a significant role in their daily routines. This concept served as the initial inspiration that impacted the layout and arrangement of the house. La Deseada is renowned for its single-family homes set on approximately 1,200 square meter lots, situated amidst the scenic beauty of the mountains.

The topography was a key factor in shaping the project’s decisions. The land itself slopes gently upwards from the street towards the rear of the property, offering the possibility of exploiting the clear vistas while appropriately positioning the house. With a plot measuring 30 meters in width and 45 meters in length, the home benefits from a northern orientation along the main access street, optimizing natural light and energy efficiency. The northwest-facing side offers unobstructed vistas of the Córdoba mountains, connecting the indoors with the outdoors. The resulting design presents itself as two interlinked rectangular structures following the contours of the sloping terrain.

The main goal of the design was to ensure that the views of the mountains could be enjoyed from any vantage point within the house, creating a living experience that effortlessly transitions between outdoor and indoor spaces.  Furthermore, there was a desire to encourage social interaction throughout the spaces, connecting them closely to the surrounding outdoor scenery. Consequently, these considerations shaped the design decisions of Arpon Arquitectura (see more here), securing privacy and giving form to the house’s structure. The house’s materials consist of traditional elements like exposed concrete slabs and walls, along with wood to add warmth to certain areas, and glass to connect with the environment and the project’s views.

The house develops in two levels. The entrance is located on the first floor, which includes a two-car garage and a secondary entryway that leads to the gathering area, along with a barbecue section. The upper floor, unfolding in an L-shape scheme, accommodates the entire living area. One wing of the house is designated for the quieter areas, like a study, two kids’ bedrooms that share a bathroom, and a main bedroom with its own attached bathroom. The other side includes a living and dining space combined with a kitchen, a laundry room with a service area, and a gathering spot with a barbecue section. This entire setup is organized on one floor, thanks to a big concrete wall that creates a flat surface for the L-shaped layout of the house.

A patio featuring a pool was included to foster social leisure and strengthen the bond with the mountain scenery. The natural mountain cut is integrated as a design element at the house’s entrance, establishing a link between the indoor space and the surroundings, all while maintaining privacy.
