Danish practice Kvorning Design recently took on the challenge of designing, producing, and constructing an entire outdoor learning space on the campus of a local teaching initiative, LIFE foundation, in Kongens Lyngby, Denmark. Huddled around a campfire site, the wood-clad Kvorning Shelters emerge as four large, eight-person, triangular volumes where different activities can be held. Together, these hyper-modern structures redefine the aesthetics of traditional classes and how educational experiences are carried out.

inviting wonder + exploration through a dynamic composition

Once the project was complete, Kvorning Design took its drone out for a spin, capturing the shelters’ minimalist yet dynamic geometric shapes. The exterior facets reveal a dark roofing felt checkered with thin wooden panels. At the same time, the interiors, clad entirely in warm-toned wood, are kept clear of any furniture to maximize flexible use. As a result, from certain angles, the triangular classes boast a cavernous quality, inviting wonder and exploration.

‘Now everyone can enjoy designer shelters and an untouched piece of Danish countryside just a short drive north of Copenhagen,’ note the architects. The Kvorning Shelters sit next to the new LIFE building, housing indoor learning facilities, professional laboratories, and more.
