thai-based architect kuanchanok pakavaleetorn designed her own family dwelling, organized around a spacious atrium, allowing windows to face inwards. located in sathorn, a vibrant business and cultural district in the heart of bangkok, thailand, the concrete house represents stability yet openness due to the cuts that carve out the otherwise massive structure. meanwhile, the roof garden is highlighted by a concrete structure at the top of the building, reflecting nature to the interior.kuanchanok pakavaleetorn's 55 sathorn atrium is allowing windows to face inwardsall images courtesy of w-workspace

55 sathorn by kuanchanok pakavaleetorn takes shape as a five-storey structure blending a combination of sharp edges and curving elements. ribbons of concrete give the impression from far away that they are floating, describing the rooftop courtyard, while a strip of light generates an internal vertical patio arrangement. the openings are strategically positioned allowing natural light, and ventilation to flow through the interior at different hours.kuanchanok pakavaleetorn's 55 sathorn atrium is allowing windows to face inwards

in an attempt to create a playful spatial layout, the architects incorporated transitions of concrete masses, stimulating the passers-by interest. upon entering the interior, visitors and inhabitants face a translucent vertical steel staircase that connects the five levels. different materials clad the steps depending on the floor, creating a clear transition to each area.kuanchanok pakavaleetorn's 55 sathorn atrium is allowing windows to face inwards

the living room and kitchen area consist of large floor-to-ceiling windows facing the patio, providing a visual connection between them, which ensures the entry of abundant natural light. furthermore, even though the three bedrooms share the internal courtyard, their privacy is maintained. moreover, the top story bedroom enjoys the roof garden and sweeping views opening towards the city. meanwhile, a muted palette of cool greys combined with timber, concrete masonry wall, steel, glass, and natural stones complete ’55 sathorn house’ interior generating a comfort, and calm ambiance for the residents. kuanchanok pakavaleetorn's 55 sathorn atrium is allowing windows to face inwards
