renowned architect kengo kuma has unveiled designs for a new railway station to be built in japan’s tokyo prefecture. the ‘takaosanguchi station’ forms part of the region’s keio takao line, a route that serves as the main point of train access to mount takao.

kuma’s plans detail a large timber canopy that shelters an external meeting point at ground floor level. the entrance leads travelers inside an enclosed passenger hall, with clearly defined routes to each platform. stations feature glazed waiting areas, with cuboid lanterns hung from the angled ceiling. the project is scheduled for completion in late 2015.
