in the middle of stockholm’s archipelago, a narrow pathway brings the visitors to ‘sauna R’, a black box embedded in the rocks designed by matteo foresti. photographer joão morgado managed to accurately capture the eerie atmosphere of the isolated sauna in the swedish nature. the project’s spectacularly framed views and sophisticated materials are the focus of the photographer’s work.
inside foresti’s ‘sauna R’, a monolithic stone bench faces the water through a large sliding window. made of black granite (negresco) and dark wood (oak), the space functions like a camera obscura, a little box that is drawn to shape the views of the landscape. on the back, a thick wall contains all the services: a small kitchen hidden behind the sliding doors and a bathroom illuminated by a skylight.
morgado captured the small sauna’s essence, hidden between the mountains. at night the black room resembles a lighthouse, a warm and cozy space illuminated from the inside. the minimal yet highly sophisticated interiors provide a luxurious retreat in the swedish mountains.
