jean nouvel + OXO architectes to build mountainous mixed-use development in antibes

a team comprising ateliers jean nouvel, OXO architectes, and jean foussat has been selected to create a ‘new kind of 21st century campus’ in the french resort town of antibes. the project will form part of ‘sophia antipolis’, a technology park founded in 1969 that is now home to over 2,000 companies. the winning scheme, referred to as ‘econtone antibes’, has been designed to serve as the main entrance to the vast site.

designed by ateliers jean nouvel, OXO architectes, and jean foussat, the €44 million ($50 million USD) project is being backed by development firm compagnie de phalsbourg. the mixed-use campus will contain offices, including co-working space, as well as a hotel and other services. integrated vegetation is an important part of the plan, with landscape architect jean mus responsible for the design of the site’s lush greenery.

‘jean mus, a landscape architect who knows all the various lavenders, bushes and herbs of antibes, will help us invent the new biotope,’ explains jean nouvel. ‘this project will be done both with knowledge of the local geographic and historic conditions and in partnership with renowned contemporary artists, who will provide commissioned works themed around the location.’
