copenhagen-based studio jan henrik jansen arkitekter introduces its sommerhus birkedal, a holiday home on the danish island of møn. the peaceful retreat is realized as a clustered organization of cylindrical volumes, nine distinct forms interlinked and constructed with intricate timber frames and clad with narrow spruce branches which are a waste product of the forestry industry. the strategy results in an interior condition of sweeping and intimate spaces, interrupted by large and occupiable picture windows.

the design team at jan henrik jansen arkitekter organizes its sommerhus birkedal as an assemblage of interlinked circles in plan. each of the cylindrical volumes encloses a single unique room, finished with richly textured white surfaces including river pebble floors and painted board and batten wall cladding. the resulting interiors suggest the walls of a gallery space, providing a calm backdrop for the constantly changing textures and colors of the agricultural landscape framed by the punctured rectangular windows.
