IZ architects has completed a residence for a family in danang city, central vietnam, built as a house within a house in which the large structure acts as a shell that encloses smaller volumes connected by stairs. located on a 5 x 20 m lot, typical of residential projects in the country, DT house has been developed according to the characteristics of a tropical dwelling, combining materials and spatial arrangements that help withstand the harsh climate of its area.
IZ architects has built a wide courtyard at the front of the lot, which is sheltered from the street through a black steel grid. the courtyard allows for plenty of natural light and wind to enter the interior, while it has been complete with two sets of stairs that lead to the different floors of the house. inside, a tall, thin tree in the kitchen extends up to the towards the skylight, visually linking the different levels and creating the sense of an open air space where family members can see each other and communicate through various internal openings. the residence is built using locally-sourced materials, including brick, concrete, wood and steel, while natural, earthy hues together with plenty of vegetation create a sense of being close to nature.
