curved roof defines KHT house by international royal architecture

japanese practice I.R.A., or international royal architecture, has completed ‘KHT house’, a dual family residence in the country’s yamagata prefecture. the design comprises living accommodation for the older members of the family at ground floor level, while above, space is provided for the home’s younger occupants. a communal tatami room is placed at the center of the plan, while an external terrace connects the residence at the upper level. the dwelling is defined by its asymmetrically curved roof, clad in strong galvalume steel sheets that are capable of supporting the considerable amount of snow that falls in the region.
