AIDIA STUDIO revives Deportivo Zanatepec sports center in Oaxaca

AIDIA STUDIO‘s project for the Deportivo Zanatepec sports center in Santo Domingo Zanatepec, Oaxaca, focuses on restoring and upgrading the dilapidated facilities. The design integrates a robust base of pigmented concrete with a lightweight metal structure above.

Located in the Istmo of Tehuantepec Region, the site is surrounded by fruit tree fields and mountain views. The project provides essential amenities for the local soccer league, including grandstands, locker rooms, public bathrooms, and commercial spaces. A new access plaza, a 400m athletics track around the football field, and a 1km perimeter path for runners enhance the sports complex. Children’s play areas and calisthenics spaces are also included.

pigmented concrete base contrasts the light metal structure

The main building features ground-floor dressing rooms with showers, lockers, bathrooms, and direct field access. The architecture and design studio connects a cafeteria and spectator bathrooms by a shaded portico. The grandstand, with a 400-spectator capacity, is covered by a modular metal roof of hyperbolic paraboloids, ensuring unobstructed views, and is accessible via centralized stairs and side ramps for wheelchair users.

The contrast between the concrete base and the light metal structure is accentuated by the parquet finish, white ironwork railings, and parota wood details in the lattices and pivoting doors of the lower portico.
