construction has begun on the master plan for the new ‘istanbul international financial center’ (IIFC) by american practice HOK, who is overseeingnot only the major decisions on an urban scale but also setting architectural and landscape design standards, sustainability guidelines, and the designof two high-rise office towers. the project takes up 170 acres between ataşehir and ümraniye on the asian side of the city, easily communicated with the historical center. being ranked the 17th largest economy in the world, the development is expected to boost it’s ranking to one of the top 10 by theyear 2023. the buildings will include about 45 million square feet of office, residential, retail, conference, hotel, and public parks, housing the country’sfinancial market governing bodies, state-owned and private banks and other related businesses. the 2.6 billion dollar master plan is scheduled for completion by the end of 2016.
