tolis koumparos revamps 1925 neoclassical building in greece
Tolis Koumparos of 2nd Floor architecture and design store transforms a neoclassical building in Thessaloniki, Greece, into the Hipsters boutique hotel. The structure features elements dating back to 1925, including a diamond-patterned facade, ornate metal railings, and a prominent heavyweight metal door inscribed with the initials M and N. Inside, original tilework, embossed ceilings, and a preserved wooden staircase stand as a testament to the craftsmanship of the era. Materials such as galvanized steel and black raw steel throughout the interiors set a dramatic tone. Iconic furniture pieces by Jean Prouvé, Verner Panton, Tom Dixon, and Gebrüder Thonet punctuate the spaces, creating a cohesive dialogue between past and present.

hipsters boutique hotel features 17 curated guest rooms
Located at the crossroads of Ionos Dragoumi and Papadopoulou in the center of Thessaloniki, this boutique hotel combines history, art, and contemporary design. The rich history of the Hipsters building originally designed by Thessaloniki-born Jacques Moshe begins with its original owners—Joseph Menachem, a distiller, and the Navarro family, prominent importers of metals.
Once home to offices and shops, the renovation by 2nd Floor’s Tolis Koumparos preserves its historic essence while introducing a bold design ethos. The 17 individually curated guest rooms—ranging from Deluxe Doubles and Superior Doubles to a fully accessible Suite and the expansive Executive Suite—offer guests an immersive experience. The Executive Suite, designed by Tom Dixon, is a standout feature, showcasing the signature industrial-chic aesthetic of the designer.

art-centered café-bar and design shop complete the project
Hipsters Hotel also invites exploration beyond the guest rooms. Art plays a starring role at Hipsters. Permanent and revolving exhibitions curated by renowned photographer Stratos Kalafatis document the restoration process of the building, offering guests a deeper understanding of its history. The café-bar of the hotel is a destination in itself, boasting a curated selection of natural wines, craft cocktails, and artisan coffee. The Travelers Shop offers an exclusive selection of design originals and bespoke merchandise, allowing visitors to take a piece of the experience home.
