H2 uses local materials to build the ruong resort within a rice field in rural vietnam

ruong by H2 is a resort comprising a cluster of bungalows, located within a field near the small beach town of ho tram, in the ba ria – vung tau province of vietnam. situated amidst the countryside context, the project takes its cues from the surrounding fields and offers itself as a place for guests to find refuge from the noise of the bustling city. the resort employs local materials and labor in its construction, featuring a wood and iron truss construction system, and traditional details, such as a tile and straw roofs.

‘if anyone was born and raised in the countryside, it must be impossible to forget the peacefulness of the rice field in the season that smells like sweet young milk,’ notes H2. starting from the idea of the field, the vietnamese architecture studio developed ruong as a peaceful resort where guests can enjoy the rural surroundings and get away from their busy urban lifestyles. the project comprises three main function areas: the reception and restaurant, which is topped with a straw roof and complete with a rice view pool; the internal bungalows, which consist of two independent bedrooms connected by a large roof and front porch; and the rice view bungalows, which are designed to open up to the surrounding fields.

the resort was built using local materials, such as wood, straw and tiles, as well as local labor, to reduce costs and create jobs for the people living in the area. the project integrates vernacular details, including roofs made of tiles and straw, and makes the most out of its rural landscape by opening up to the plethora of plants and trees around it.
