GRUPO studio curates its casa SI as a residential composition in concrete in argentina

architect santiago chasseing of GRUPO studio designs casa SI as a dwelling for his own family in córdoba, argentina. the house, captured by gonzalo viramonte, is constructed as an interplay of concrete and glass, of solids and transparencies. this is first demonstrated with the use of a patterned screen in stone, which adds a textural element to the exterior courtyard otherwise surrounded by solid walls. meanwhile, the interior is further opened with a full height volume of glass, looking out onto the courtyard along with a covered, semi enclosed patio. the architect comments on the many elements that led to the development of the house: ‘the most important are self-identity, simplicity, efficiency, reduced program and footage and connection with nature.’

GRUPO studio sites its casa SI outside villa allende, a little city in the outskirts of córdoba. the plot spans 1,500 square meters (16,150 square feet), while its surroundings are characterized by single family houses along large, verdant plots of wooded land. developing the project, the team begins with a ‘grid of full and empty spaces.’ the empty spaces host interior courtyards which, combined with transparent glass or opaque planes, generate a strong connection with the natural context. while the volume appears as a solid monolith, each interior space is opened to the outside with at least a single full-height window.
