thessaloniki, greece-based leaf architects studio was commissioned to redesign the façade of the grand masoutis supermarket. the store is located in a 1960s building, consisting of two main volumes with a footprint of 70×52 meters. primarily single level, the building’s southwest corner has three levels — intended for future uses.

because the supermarket needed to remain operational during the design process, it was decided fabrication and assembly would be completed mostly off-site. the façade consists of a series of wooden-slat panels, hung in succession next to one another. progressing towards the southwest corner components are oriented to an increasingly severe angle, giving the impression of a gradation. efficient and simple, the functional addition improves heat gain, and gives the store an aesthetic upgrade.
