ginseng showroom by sml + the cornerz reinterprets traditional cultivating structure as retail area

in translating a traditional structure used to cultivate ginseng into a modern interior feature, SML + the cornerz architects deliver an exhibition and promotion shop for korean brand punggi that immerses visitors in the plant’s long history and production. the house of ginseng features a minimal, all-white interior completed with a timber ‘sampoeojang’ structure that acts as the showroom’s retail area.

the architects reinterpreted the sampoeojang, a lightweight module that provides shade for ginger to grow, as the store’s main attraction where visitors can learn more about the cultivation process of the plant and purchase punggi’s ginseng. the rest of the showroom consists of the promotion hall lobby and the exhibition area that features a continuous curved wall narrating the brand’s history. the all-white interior and timber structure merge through the store’s counters where a gradient finish brings the two materials together.
