ghezzi novak and blanco use natural materials for cozy restaurant interior in lima

the lima based studio, ghezzi novak, has collaborated with designer pamela remy of blanco, to create the new interior of restaurant ‘mérito’, in the barranco district of lima. the existing space has experienced multiple interventions over the past years, therefore, the new design strips the building back to it’s origins and uses natural materials to evoke a warm, intimate environment, reflecting the restaurant’s style of food.

the resulting interior was achieved by first stripping back the existing walls to reveal the original adobe. after this stage, they worked to create a design which reflected the character of the restaurant and the modest size of the space. the main feature of the first floor is the large central table that is used for both kitchen and dining. this shared area creates a more sociable atmosphere. in contrast, the second floor is all about calmness and coziness. timber and soft lighting are used throughout the upstairs level to evoke warmth and intimacy. by using natural materials such as wood, stone and adobe, ghezzi novak and blanco form the intimate quality of mérito.
