‘ursa major’ asterism reflects on ground as glamping resort

‘Ursa Major’ is a glamping resort by ss.mm design in Arkadia, Greece, conceptually referencing the northern constellation. Glamping is a term used for luxurious camping retreats all over untamed parts of the world that do not compromise on any comfort. Located in the heart of the Peloponnese region, the ‘Ursa Major’ complex’s design draws influence from the star formation, imitating its geometry. The asterism’s name ‘Larger Bear’ comes from its association with the greek myth of Callisto, a nymph who was turned into a bear by Hera after falling in love with Zeus and giving birth to his son, Arkas. The regional unit of Arkadia is named after him, considered to be his birthplace. In the concept of the star leaving its traces on the ground, the glamping site is a reflection of the sky onto the land. The project consists of ten tents shaped like geodesic domes built around a pool-like lake. Open theaters, areas of outdoor activities, and open whirlpool baths complement the luxurious experience in nature.

luxurious geodesic domes sited in greek landscape

This hospitality project by ss.mm design follows the design concept with most of its volumes in geometric forms. The dome tents surround an eye-shaped artificial lake. Each of the tents is placed on a wooden platform overlooking the mountain or the pool-like lake. Accommodating a double bed, an intimate fireplace, a fully equipped bathroom, and a small kitchenette the domes provide a glamorous stay on the site. Round skylights and private roofed balconies complete the immersive experience in the greek landscape. The larger domes feature a mezzanine level suitable for families. Water facilities and multi-function common spaces, as well as dining services located on the upper part of the camping site, are available for travelers that do not necessarily stay overnight. Beautiful scenery meets luxurious camping in this resort.
