aiming to bring the architecture back to basics, javanese architect gayuh budi utomo has designed ‘omah amoh’, a private house in sidoarjo, indonesia. the building is almost entirely built of reused materials and details, most of which are old doors. here, the door can be a window, a table, or keep its initial function.
the authentic house maintains typical indonesian interiors throughout all the spaces — the floors are covered with traditional local tiles, accompanied by carved wooden doorways. meanwhile, the décor is completed with some very original elements, such as custom-made concrete shelves and wall rack made of metal pipe. the doors are integrated into every part of the house — the architect has used them to make new tables and windows.
