fran silvestre arquitectos has envisioned a sculptural residence embedded in the grazalema mountain range in sotogrande, cádiz. named the ‘house of the seven gardens’, the design takes advantage of the expansive and isolated context to create a sprawling residence carved into the terrain in order to reduce the impact on landscape.

a different approach has been taken compared to the stark white volumes fran silvestre arquitectos is recognized for, this dwelling uses grey stone and concrete to instill a monolithic expression. the curving masses dictate the organization of the rooms and where windows are opened, meanwhile influence is taken directly from geographical features including caves and gorges. seven different outdoor spaces and gardens is entwined to the generous interior program and creates connections to the surrounding landscape. this is further strengthened by the porches that open out to the ocean on one side, and the mountainside in the other.
