mexican practice FR-EE / fernando romero enterprise is working on the new ‘museum of south mexico’ in the mayan riviera. borrowing the basicstructure intrinsic to the mayan pyramids, ideal to endure hurricanes and built of local limestone blocks, the monolith represents a contemporaryabstracted form the of the ancient construction. various openings are carved out of the facades that provide places for the users to experience the landscape as well as define a series of dynamic spaces inside, ideal for the exposition of different pieces. the interior is composed of a central squarecore housing the vertical circulation and mechanical systems. the various floors can be considered more as terraces that visual communicate toone another combining artwork with the cafeteria function, lookout areas, and top-floor lounge.
