eco-chic shipping container hotel lets you try before you buy your own

shipping containers, camper vans, tiny apartments, with an abundance of unique ways to live nowadays the best way to choose is to try one out for yourself. made from repurposed containers flophouze does just that, offering hotel accommodation to guests who after the experience can decide if they would like to buy their own.

located in round top, texas, flophouze presents guests with the opportunity to stay in one of six shipping containers as well as offering a turn key service in designing and building one of their own. each one consists of a living room, kitchen, bedroom and a bathroom with rates starting at $175 per night. guests also have access to fire pits, hammocks, and charging stations for electric vehicles. 

from the shipping container itself to the decor within, each one is a clever demonstration of upcycling. the interiors of each container are clad with sustainable wood harvested from the company’s farm in upstate new york, windows have been salvaged from a school in philadelphia that was slated for demolition, and kitchen cabinets had a former life as cabinets in a laboratory in brooklyn. the result is a retro-inspired eco-friendly dwelling with a touch of western attitude.
