3D signage makes hey! coffee shop stand out from a busy highway in thailand

for its latest architectural intervention, flat12x has shaped a new outlet for thai cafè chain ‘hey! coffee’ in chonburi, thailand. situated next to a busy highway, the coffee shop is designed to bring fresh life into an outdated street of shops while using materials that reflect the surrounding industrial area.

to regenerate this old shopping arcade, flat12x proposed a minimal street frontage in order to quieten the chaotic façades of the existing shops. the design team specified monolithic aluminum cladding and white 3D signage spelling out ‘hey!’ that can be seen and read from every angle, effectively grabbing the attention of passersby. 

inside, a square bar is positioned in the middle of the 100 sqm (1,076.40 sqft) commercial space, which aims to slow patrons down from their usual motorway rush. there are also tables and stools surrounding the bar as well as displays with information about the hey! coffee brand. people can grab a quick coffee to go, sit down for longer, and even purchase bags of coffee from the product shelves.

all the materials and finishing were chosen to reflect the industrial context. metal, brick, and timber were selected as basic, everyday materials, echoing the slogan of the brand: ‘everyday coffee’.
