an exhibition displayed during art basel miami beach has revealed in more detail plans for the city’s ‘faena district’. the presentation at the faena collaboratory highlights the region’s emerging residential, commercial and cultural district – the brainchild of argentine hotelier alan faena.

the cornerstone of the district is the rem koolhaas-designed ‘faena forum‘, one of the development’s three projects by OMA. the 50,000 square foot institution will be dedicated to the development of cross-disciplinary cultural programing, intended to encourage collaborations across artistic, intellectual, and geographic divides.

in addition to the involvement of koolhaas, faena has also enlisted british architect norman foster to design a 24 storey apartment block across the street from the forum. other upcoming projects for the district include the revamping of faena saxony hotel, a 1940s structure that will be redesigned in collaboration with film director baz luhrmann and his wife, catherine martin.
