merging Modern Design with Local Craftsmanship

Enter Projects Asia (EPA), a leader in sustainable architecture, has recently completed The Brickhouse, a new home located within the Laguna Homes estate in Phuket, Thailand. Set on a land area of 988 square meters, with a total built-up area of 688.5 square meters, the brick villa offers a spacious living area of 525 square meters. The Brickhouse represents a fusion of creative design, advanced technology, and traditional artisanal craftsmanship, all underpinned by sustainable, biophilic principles. This project marks ‘a new chapter in Thai residential architecture,’ blending international design standards with local craftsmanship to create a living space that is at once contemporary and timeless.

enter projects is shaping tropical thailand

The Brickhouse embodies Enter Projects Asia’s dedication to integrating traditional elements with modern aesthetics. Drawing inspiration from mid-century modern design, the villa serves as a tropical retreat, balancing functionality with beauty. The architects strategically position the structure beside a serene oasis, adjacent to the Laguna Golf Phuket championship course, offering both privacy and proximity to amenities. The villa’s design leverages noble materials including brick, slate, and wood, creating a structure that feels both current and enduring.

Inside The Brickhouse, the commitment to supporting local economies and preserving traditional craftsmanship is evident. The villa features custom-crafted furnishings made from locally sourced natural materials like rattan, specially sourced plywood, and marble. These materials are chosen not only for their aesthetic appeal but also for their sustainability. The artisans responsible for these pieces come from families with a legacy of craftsmanship spanning five generations, ensuring that each piece is rich in history and tradition. This attention to detail creates an atmosphere of warmth and serenity, making the villa a true sanctuary.

the brickhouse brings fluid indoor-outdoor living

The Brickhouse blends indoor and outdoor living spaces, as an 18-meter swimming pool overlooks the golf course, providing a tranquil setting for relaxation and recreation. A private courtyard, lush with date palms, further enhances the connection with nature. The design carefully considers environmental factors, with each zone of the house crafted to optimize cross-ventilation, promoting personal health and reducing the need for artificial cooling. This thoughtful design makes The Brickhouse a model of environmental design.

Sustainability is a cornerstone of The Brickhouse’s design. The villa is equipped with solar panels to generate power, a hybrid water heater, and an EV charging station, all contributing to its energy efficiency. The orientation of the house, along with extended roof overhangs, maximizes natural light and ventilation, reducing reliance on artificial lighting and air conditioning. These features make the project not just a luxurious home but a forward-thinking solution to modern living.

Patrick Keane, the driving force behind Enter Projects Asia, encapsulates the studio’s philosophy:So much of architecture depends simply on what is being manufactured and sold. We would rather use hybrid materials, work with local economies, and collaborate with progressive engineers to optimize structures and invent construction details.’ This vision is clearly reflected in The Brickhouse, where sustainability and innovation are integral to every aspect of the project. By blending traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, Enter Projects Asia has created a villa that resonates with those who live there, offering a unique and sustainable living experience.
