slovenia-based architecture firm enota has completed the ‘stamboldzioski dental studio’, located in nova gorica, slovenia. the annex structure is built on a slope where a portion of the building is dug into the ground, reducing its presence in the surrounding residential area. the new entrance is marked with a repetitive diagonal concrete edifice, clad with large angular windows providing the office with natural light.

the design of the studio features several energy considerations: firstly, having the building partially buried into the ground allows for additional external thermal mass reducing heat loss and maintaining indoor air temperature; secondly, trees have been installed in front of the windows to prevent the interior from overheating in the summer; and thirdly, the top surface features a green roof providing natural layers of drainage and irrigation to the site.
