TIME magazine has named elizabeth diller, founding partner of diller scofidio + renfro (DS+R), on the 2018 TIME 100 — its annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world. the list, now in its 15th year, recognizes the activism, innovation, and achievement of the world’s most influential individuals. the award has been accepted by elizabeth diller as a representative of the collective efforts of DS+R, who are the only design firm to be featured on the 2018 TIME100 list. the new york-based design studio — whose practice spans the fields of architecture, urban design, installation art, multi-media performance, digital media, and print — is led by elizabeth diller, ricardo scofidio, charles renfro, and benjamin gilmartin.

DS+R is responsible for two of the largest recent architecture and planning initiatives in new york city: the high line and the transformation of lincoln center’s half-century-old performing arts campus. other notable projects around the country include the roy and diana vagelos education center at columbia university; the berkeley art museum and pacific film archive at UC berkeley; and the institute of contemporary art in boston. the studio’s international work includes the 34-acre zaryadye park adjacent to the kremlin in moscow (completed 2017) and the museum of image and sound currently under construction in rio de janeiro. DS+R was also selected to design a new home for the london symphony orchestra and conductor simon rattle.

the studio is currently leading two further cultural works significant to new york: the shed — the first multi-arts center designed to commission, produce, and present all types of performing arts, visual arts, and popular culture designed in collaboration with rockwell group – and the expansion of the museum of modern art (both opening 2019). the project also won the public vote for THE DESIGN PRIZE 2018 in the category of social impact. DS+R is also currently designing three art installations opening may 2018: the costume institute’s ‘heavenly bodies: fashion and the catholic imagination’ exhibition at the metropolitan museum of art in new york, and two installations at the 2018 venice biennale. read more on TIME’s website here.
