Debaixo do Bloco completes 3 box house in brazil

Debaixo do Bloco’s 3 Box House in Goiás, Brazil, celebrates a harmonious synthesis of architecture and nature. The property takes full advantage of the lush vegetation, sunset views, and a neighboring private lake, all of which serve as the backdrop for the project. For this project, the design team opted for a structure that blends with the environment, encourages recreation, and provides a comfortable retreat for its occupants. To ensure minimal disruption to the landscape, the architects utilized the sloping land towards the banks of the lake, creating three distinct yet interconnected building blocks that sprawl horizontally, subtly communicating through their architectural features without being physically linked.

3 Box House harmonizes Purpose and Nature

Debaixo do Bloco’s 3 Box House incorporates various structures for specific purposes. The social block, characterized by open spaces and circular columns, establishes a rhythmic connection between floor and ceiling, eschewing traditional corridors to promote a seamless fusion of indoor and outdoor areas, ideal for social activities such as dining, cooking, and entertainment. As the shutters open up, the sense of shelter becomes more evident, with no barriers between the interior and exterior, only a reassuring feeling of protection. Moving towards the rooms block, the architects gathered discrete suite modules sheltered beneath a shared protective roof, arranged to optimize scenic views and foster a sense of community. A surrounding water mirror acts as a boundary between private and communal spaces, enhancing thermal comfort, a vital consideration in the region’s arid and sunny climate. Slightly removed from the social block, the pool space maintains a visual connection, basking in ample sunlight and serving as a perfect location for poolside leisure and gatherings. Pivoting brises provide shade and dynamic architectural features; when shut, they appear like a solid wooden block, and when opened, they assume a rhythmic configuration in the form of slatted pieces.

When it comes to materiality, the architects opted for an earthy color palette that harmonizes with the surroundings. Piassava, used on the roof, camouflages itself amid the dry savannah, while the concrete integrates with the natural elements. Wood infuses the spaces with warmth and movement, while granite flooring ensures durability and convenience. The spaces are completed with predominantly Brazilian furniture that combines vintage and contemporary elements, such as the soft armchair by Sergio Rodrigues and the Studio Orth design.
