debaixo do bloco builds S2 house with large sliding windows in brasilia

commanding an elevated position in brasilia, the ‘S2 house‘ has been designed by debaixo do bloco arquitetura for a family of five. conceived to create the ideal home for the client, the project focuses on two main concepts: the interaction of spaces and maximizing the incredible views the site benefits from. resulting in an open, flowing layout, the scheme promotes transparency throughout the various areas while also connecting the family to the nature outside.

the program of the S2 house is divided by debaixo do bloco into five main functions: a social area, a recreation area, services and private bedroom spaces for both the children and the couple. upon entering the residence on the ground floor level, an open-plan kitchen, living and dining area greets residents. this space features a large sliding window to the rear elevation, which allows natural light to flood the interior while also extending the indoor environment to the outdoors when the glazed element is fully opened.

the ground floor also houses two bathrooms and three bedrooms for the children, one of which is connected to an en-suite toilet. on the upper level, a large, open-plan master bedroom is planned for the adults. this luxurious space includes a generous shower room and a sizeable walk in wardrobe. these spaces connect to an outdoor terrace, allowing the couple to enjoy the outdoors.

the interiors are defined by a material palette of pale grey masonry and warm timber elements. this combination results in a very contemporary yet welcoming atmosphere. the use of glazing also features in the design. implemented to bring light into the spaces, the windows additionally function to maximize transparency through the house, so while mom and dad cook they can watch the kids playing in the pool.

from outside, S2 house appears as a series of masonry blocks stacked on top of one another and then broken up visually by the wooden lining of the overhangs. the application of timber breaks up the sobriety of these grey masses, giving a more tactile architecture and relating the building back to the outdoor environment. glass panels are also applied to the volumes for the external terraces and balconies, enhancing the views from the residence and allowing the family a space to contemplate the nature and city of brasilia below.
