Function-oriented Design organizes Roof House’s layout
The Roof House by IF (Integrated Field Co., Ltd.) is designed through an iterative process that considers the functional needs and spatial preferences of its occupants. The residential project in Thailand began with a workshop where each family member contributed to the spatial arrangement, helping define connections between rooms and refining design elements. The layout was developed to align with daily routines while maintaining a cohesive architectural language.

Integrated Field’s design Balances Openness and Privacy
The house is situated on an 189-square-wah (1 wah=2 meters) rectangular plot and accommodates a family of four and a pet. The design by IF (Integrated Field Co., Ltd.) architectural studio prioritizes functionality with a modest yet private exterior. A welcoming atmosphere was established in the kitchen and common areas, reflecting the owner’s preference for warmth and hospitality. To balance openness and privacy, the layout integrates a central courtyard with a double-height space between the first and second floors, allowing visual connections while maintaining separation between shared and private areas. Private spaces are positioned at the rear, and a garden and carport at the entrance enhance privacy from the street.

Single-sloped roof and Central Courtyard define roof house
The defining architectural feature is the single-sloped roof, which spans across the three levels. Various angles were studied to achieve a balanced proportion that visually minimizes the house’s scale while maintaining its spatial efficiency. The structure appears as a single-story building from certain viewpoints, subtly integrating into its surroundings. The central courtyard serves as a focal point, connecting the living, dining, and kitchen areas while allowing visibility between floors. The design encourages interaction among family members while preserving individual privacy.
The arrangement enables activities to be observed from different levels without direct intrusion into private spaces. Externally modest, the house reveals an open and interconnected interior that facilitates both communal living and personal retreat. The spatial organization and roof design contribute to an adaptable environment that evolves with the needs of its residents.
