daluz gonzalez architekten has completed ‘casa curved’, an all-black home located in a residential neighborhood near basel, switzerland. with a short execution time, and a tight budget, the team built the residence in the grounds of the client’s parents — with both abode’s sharing the generously propositioned garden. the existing home — built in the 1980s by the architect max schnetz — features a semicircular design and this old building lent some obvious features to its new neighbor. from the plan it is clear how the two physically relate to one another.

according to daluz gonzalez architekten, the design is a result of studying curved forms ‘within the most known economic variable.’ minimal deformations of the outside walls, accentuate the corners, giving an unexpected expressiveness that characterizes and identifes the object.
meanwhile, the house, which was built in wood onto a concrete basement, forms a link with the traditional swiss construction, emphasizing this duality between formal modernity and constructive tradition.
