on the banks of yan lake park in china‘s liyang city lies a sinuously-shaped architectural intervention realized by CROX. inspired by a chinese instrument called jiaoweiqin, the organic lines of the recently completed museum are designed to create a dialogue between the urban context and the adjacent park.

the project is composed by CROX in two parts: the undulating green hills and the ‘floating’ architecture that rests on top. within the latter volume, the space contains exhibition halls as well as a rooftop garden and viewing terrace, allowing visitors to enjoying panoramic views across the lake. the lower part of the museum, or ‘mounatins’, blends and extends into the surrounding landscape. in this ground level, a central courtyard is surrounded by a lounge, educational room and office.

access to the museum is gained from the bottom of the hills. designed to feel natural and welcoming, this curved entrance is connected to a large plaza on the south-west facing elevation. this public space functions to bring people into the central courtyard on the ground floor of the building while also providing a vibrant area for local residents to meet and gather.
