the container cabin at OOST kampville is designed as a spacious getaway from the city

located in a low flood land area of nakhon nayok, about two hours outside of bangkok, the OOST kampville is developed as a getaway from city life, featuring orchards and a weekend house for a multi-generation family.

during the early stages of the project, the owners requested a flexible program that could ultimately give way to private vacation rentals for families similar to their own. as such, architect tung jai ork baab (TJOB) was commissioned to build a multi-leveled and A-framed cabin that borders the site’s reservoir. due to the limited availability of locally skilled workers, the idea was to use a pre-fabrication construction method. more specifically, the architect introduced shipping containers as the primary indoor spaces of the cabin.

the first level of the container cabin at OOST kampville holds a central common room created out of two shipping blocks. on the other side, a pantry and dining room sit in one container. connecting these two zones is a middle deck that serves as a semi-outdoor space for gatherings. the second level, meanwhile, accommodates a third container housing a private bedroom and bathroom.

next to the cabin, JBOT designed an outdoor dining and kitchen area, accompanied by a separate container bedroom that links to a small swimming pool and deck bordering a small artificial reservoir.

responding to the tropical climate with a protective a-frame roof structure

the composition of the A-Frame roof structure responds to the tropical climate and heat transfer problem. for one, the metal sheet at the top protects guests from heat and rain, while a translucent section in the middle allows natural light to reach the middle deck. the lower part of the roof holds a steel plate louver that can protect from rain and sun yet still let the wind flow through the cabin to maximize ventilation and prevent the heat from settling deep inside the rooms.
