valencia-based bona fide taller designed a subtle intervention taking shape as a promenade to merge the urban edge of a spanish village with its landscape. located on the edge of a small town by the river valley of les coves de vinromà, spain, the project unrolls as a ceramic carpet following the line of the existing stone wall that holds the terrain. furthermore, it creases and folds as the trees and roads cross its way, while concrete masses emerge from the ground inviting visitors to sit on them.concrete masses, rusted steel + stones blend this promenade into the spanish landscapeall images courtesy of oleh kardash horlay

materiality is the key element for bona fide taller‘s project, particularly in such a delicate environment. the pavement is formed with blocks of recycled low-value ceramic stock, cut and reassembled, resulting in a warm red pinstripe. the intervention is integrated into the landscape along with stonework, stone paving of different sorts, and rusted steel. furthermore, the surfaces of the concrete slabs polished to be protected from daily use.concrete masses, rusted steel + stones blend this promenade into the spanish landscape

other elements such as bollards lead the flow, while it descends and drains into a small plaza. unlike the pathway, this space adopts urban, domestic attributes, taking form as an outdoor area for meeting and rest. the architects mark the center with a fountain that expels the water through an open drain to the natural terrain below. from its ledge of rusted mesh and stone, the river can be seen, with all its white marbles, and the abandoned barns at the other side of the valley.concrete masses, rusted steel + stones blend this promenade into the spanish landscape

the dry-stone wall that holds the court follows a footpath that goes down to the old wheel, coming from the high levels of the town above. its stepped slope is solved with river stones in between salvaged bush-hammered masonry —as found in the nearby streets uphill, combined with stairs in clay tiling, all under the shade of the pines. bona fide taller’s project is the result of a competition promoted by the ceramic industry of the region.concrete masses, rusted steel + stones blend this promenade into the spanish landscape
