‘commpost’ is an educational public tool and gathering point that provides in-depth information on the techniques and benefits of compositing organic (food) wastes. using computational design methods, ‘commpost’ creators daniel gillen, colby suter, philipp ohnesorge, and gustav fagerstrom, are able to analyze various site topography, and build accordingly. components are carefully thought out, resulting in the installation constructing much to the same effect as an IKEA piece.

‘commpost’ in field 

among other things, ‘commpost’ has an integrated, free wifi hotspot that visitors can use to access the installation’s history, learn various composting methods, and actively participate in the installation. online infographics explain, in-detail the many procedures and rewards of the eco-practice. QR codes are etched into plywood panels in several locations, and allow curious spectators access to peripheral links and info including a competition brief — which ‘commpost’ was created for — ecology-action initiatives, and other environmental advocacy resources.

the field constructs design competition announced ‘commpost’, along with 18 other proposals, as the 2015 jury selection finalists. the next stage of the contest will take place in november of this year, starting with a month long exhibition of all concepts at the university of texas at austin.
