MANIFESTO TRANSFORMS NEGLECTED URBAN AREAS INTO VIBRANT NEIGHBORHOODS

Manifesto has opened its third outpost in Prague. Following the success of the Florenc and Smichov marketplaces, the hospitality brand known for transforming neglected urban areas into vibrant neighborhoods is back with Manifesto Andel.

For its third location, Manifesto continues its collaboration with CHYBIK + KRISTOF and has chosen to regenerate a gap located in the corner of the Andel district of the Czech Republic’s capital city.

THE THIRD MANIFESTO IS LOCATED IN PRAGUE’S ANDEL DISTRICT

Founded in 2018 by American architect and entrepreneur Martin Barry, the Manifesto concept has revolutionized the idea of a marketplace by creating premium, affordable and unforgettable experiences. Combining sleek design with sustainable materials and 100% renewable energy sources, the latest project is located in the heart of the shopping, business, and entertainment Andel district. The regeneration sees an underutilized gap transformed into a new meeting spot.

‘Manifesto is a really innovative company,’ Martin Barry told designboom. ‘We are at the center of food and beverage, culture and technology. We supply the hardware and the software to all of our tenants. So we can understand the data ecosystem across all the markets, which helps us understand better what to offer and how to help our tenants grow. Retail companies and real estate are struggling around the world. High streets are dying because those companies don’t understand who their customers are and how to serve them better. They’re creating boring, outdated offers. We instead create a very exciting place, a food and culture experience.’

Designed by CHYBIK + KRISTOF, Manifesto Andel draws from the courtyard typology specific to Prague’s urban fabric. Each courtyard is characterized by unique components such as furniture, lighting, and greenery. The structure is an example of reversible design, putting the idea of reuse in the forefront. The units used in the former Manifesto in Smichov were given a second life here. From the units cladded in corrugated aluminum to the lighting and furniture, many pieces were reassembled to give birth to the new project.

An elevated wooden platform enables barrier-free access to the units and hides the temporary technical infrastructure located underneath. This collection of old and new components is gathered underneath a tangle of blue scaffolding. In the heart of the market, the scaffolding serves as a terrace that floats above the containers, overlooking the vibrant event spaces of the lower level. Powered by clean energy from renewable sources, the market operates daily.

Stay tuned as Manifesto is planning to go international with a new market opening in Berlin.
