located on the greek island of antiparos, this two storey residence designed by architects camilo rebelo and susana martins, seeks to reference the age-old duality of greek civilization. named ‘ktima house’, the dwelling can be perceived in different two ways. from above, the building is viewed as an abstract white line, adapting to the site’s undualting topography. conversely, from the sea, the façade takes on a continuous yet apparently fragmented composition that calls to mind ancient citadels.

the composition and rhythm of the design is directly influenced by greek building regulations, which state that volumes cannot exceed ten meters in length. internal living accommodation is split between two levels, with the lower storey containing a guest house and service areas and the main home positioned above.

as the dwelling is embedded within the island’s sloping terrain, green roofs guarantee a constant temperature throughout the year, without the need for mechanical cooling systems. at the rear of the property, carefully positioned patios ensure that each area of the home is naturally illuminated and ventilated.
