local architecture studio caceres + tous has completed ‘house S’, a two-volume concrete residence located in a a deep and narrow land in canggu, bali. overlooking a rice field patch in front, the house is deeply embedded in its natural context thanks to a series of open patios and a rooftop terrace that allows residents to enjoy the surrounding view. the two volumes of the project are connected via a steel bridge, covered with a sliding wooden screen that allows wind to pass through while blocking harsh sunlight and rain.top view of caceres + tous 'house S' in baliall images courtesy of caceres + tous studio

caceres + tous has used the moderate slope of the site to arrange the layout of ‘house S’ and distribute its program within the two buildings. various voids in the form of open terraces, a patio, a central garden with an ancient tree, and a rooftop terrace connect the project’s interiors with the surrounding landscape. the swimming pool completes the series of outdoor spaces, and uses the full width of the house. additionally, both buildings benefit from floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding doors, which further enhance the connection to the outdoors.
