swedish design and architecture studio bornstein lyckefors arkitekter has designed a lawyer’s office in gothenburg undefined by hierarchical structures of space. the morris law firm’s guiding principles are those of transparency, efficiency, excellence and mindfulness, and the studio’s aim was to realize a workspace that could reflect these ideals.

‘our interpretation of this was to create an open and social workspace without clear hierarchies’, explains bornstein lyckefors. the studio achieves this by blurring the lines between public and professional space within the office. the lobby area is outfitted in formal but relaxed materials: maple, brown toned mirrors, cork and brass. the spatially fragmented room is made cohesive by a grid of wood that defines the office’s ceiling and extends down the wall to become homey shelf units. a palette of orange, purple and beige supports an ambience that is both professional and welcoming and speaks to the morris law firm’s mission of creating an office where expertise and mindfulness go hand in hand.

maple wood frames are again implemented in the offices themselves, where cellular units are done away with in favor of equally sized cubicles. colored felt in hues of navy and grey both insulate the cubicles against sound, and add a warmth to the office environment. mirrors are used to visually expand the corridors of the space. employing its interdisciplinary capabilities as a studio, bornstein lyckefors outfits the concept with its own ‘BEND’ luminaire. the chair featured is the ‘quiet’ armchair manufactured by balzar beskow and designed by sami kallio. such curated additions to the space lend the office an apartment-like vibe, but preserves the location’s professional demeanour.

bornstein lyckefors’ previously completed torsby finnskogscentrum exhibition (see our coverage of the project here) was recently awarded the WAN adaptive reuse award 2016
