‘book pages transformed into a concrete facade’ in munichconcrete facade at the eurostars book hotel

covered in leafy ‘pages’ of formed fiberglass reinforced concrete only half an inch thick, the exterior at the eurostars book hotel in munich creates an illusion of a windblown manuscript. in order to avoid installation and maintenance costs generated by electronically or manually driven shading systems, the collaborative effort between spanish capella garcia arquitectura and munich-based schmid architekten implements folded cladding act as permanent solar protection for the building. using technology from austrian material specialists rieder, the structure utilizes a fibreC treatment – a sustainable façade panel offers a range of additional procedures for the creation of individual building shells. with the specially developed method, it is also possible, to make glasfibre reinforced concrete flow around corners, or produce formed elements.
