a scenic location on lake of bays near the muskoka region of canada provides the backdrop for the extended version of a digitally-prefabricated structure. the ‘bunkie’ is a collaborative effort between architectural firm BLDG workshop and industrial studio 608 design and began as a medium to experiment in ideas that cross boundaries between both of their respective disciplines.

the two companies share an intense admiration for the other’s work and an affinity for seeking new answers to old problems and processes. in this case, this meant using reduced impact materials and the adoption of CNC detailing for use in prefab construction.

in the end, the building functions as large-scale furniture as much as it does as small-scale architecture. its multi-use nature responds to both expanding families and recreational applications via three operating modes: open, play, and sleep.
workout equipment for the client
each of these features responds to the needs of the client, a person whowanted a retreat for yoga and other activities that responded peacefully with the site and view over the lake. full walls of glazing allow the user to feel connected to the landscape while a monochromatic interior promotes a calm state of mind. a deck and entrance volume have been added to further enhance the space and function while continuing to engage with the exterior plot.
