1028arq constructs triangular Casa S in Quito

Casa S, designed by 1028arq, intertwines childhood memories with modern aspirations, creating a home in Quito, Ecuador, that resonates with nostalgia and future dreams. The project, commissioned by a childhood friend of the architects, embodies a symbolic transition to adulthood while retaining playful elements from youth. The client’s request for a triangular design posed a unique challenge due to the limited usable space created by sloped walls. To address this, the architects designed two horizontally offset triangles, expanding the interior space without compromising the triangular form, adding visual and spatial depth.

Casa S Blends Industrial Design and Natural Harmony

The design of Casa S is inspired by the primal hut, with an A-frame structure where the roof becomes the walls. The exterior features industrialized materials such as prefab black metal panels, evoking an industrial aesthetic. Inside, raw materials with minimal finishes create an open, unembellished atmosphere. The layout emphasizes open spaces, with a seamless flow from the entrance to the kitchen, dining room, sunken living room, and exterior pit. The master bedroom is located on the lower floor, while a bridge on the second floor connects the second bedroom and studio area, overlooking the social spaces.

Embedded in greenery, the house blends harmoniously with its natural surroundings. 1028arq studio‘s Casa S serves as a versatile space for work, leisure, hosting, and personal transitions. It is designed to accommodate friends, family, partners, and pets, reflecting a journey from youth to adulthood.
