A New Landmark for abu dhabi’s Saadiyat cultural district

The Mandarin Oriental Residences in Abu Dhabi have been announced by Aldar, with architecture by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). The proposed development will include 226 luxury homes that are envisioned to set a new standard for residential design in the city. Managed by the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group with interior design by Lillian Wu, the project hope to bring a lifestyle defined by elegance and connectivity within the cultural heart of the growing city.

Located in Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Cultural District, the residences will be surrounded by monumental works of architecture. The team notes that residents will enjoy views of the neighboring Zayed National Museum, with its sculptural steel fins designed by Foster + Partners. It will also be in close proximity to landmarks like Jean Nouvel’s Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Mecanoo-designed Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, and the upcoming Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, which is designed by Frank Gehry and is expected to open in 2025. Meanwhile, BIG’s Mandarin Oriental Residences are expected to complete in 2028.

The Bjarke Ingels Group-designed Mandarin Oriental Residences will feature interiors curated by New York-based designer Lillian Wu Studio, who notes that the spaces will prioritize both comfort and ‘grandeur.’ Each home will be crafted with natural materials like earthy woods, natural marble, and metal accents that combine to create an atmosphere that’s both intimate and inviting. Grand chandeliers, floor-to-ceiling windows, and curated lighting further enhance the luxurious feel. Inside, open living areas connect fluidly to high-end kitchens. Master bedrooms feature spa-like bathrooms and private terraces, offering residents a peaceful escape from the city’s energy. The project’s developer Aldar notes that every detail, from artisanal finishes to lighting design, is tailored to enhance daily living.

The development includes a private dining room, a residents’ lounge, and a games room for social gatherings. A theater offers a space for entertainment, while a library provides a quiet retreat for reading or reflection. What’s more, the Mandarin Oriental Cake Shop serves a variety of artisanal desserts, adding a touch of indulgence to daily life.
