villa V by baranowitz + kronenberg features a mirrored bridge that spans a sunken courtyard

this residence designed by baranowitz + kronenberg pays homage to the ‘white city’, tel aviv’s more than 4,000 buildings built in the bauhaus or international style. titled ‘villa veiman’, or ‘villa V’, the dwelling’s simple massing responds to the local climate by embracing the mediterranean breeze and offering generously proportioned areas of light and shade. ‘it is a home rather than a house, a place for living where memories are made and life is celebrated with family and friends,’ explains the design team.

baranowitz + kronenberg’s design is an L-shape configuration that includes the majority of dwelling’s social programs. the ground level contains the home’s main living accommodation with the kitchen adjoining a lounge, which spills out onto an external terrace. from the center of the home, a bridge leads to the master bedroom, which in turn opens out towards the swimming pool and garden at the rear of the property.

the home’s lower level follows the same L-shaped layout, and contains additional bedrooms, storage areas, and a laundry room, as well as a large family space with a grand piano. from here, views are provided of a vegetation-filled courtyard, which remains open to the sky. spanning overhead, the underside of the aforementioned bridge is clad with polished stainless steel — a gesture that reduces the visual weight and scale of the crossing.
