located amid the mountainous region of northern okinawa in japan, ‘INFINITY’ by apollo architects and associates takes shape as a weekend and vacation home. the hilltop site provides the occupants with unimpeded views towards the ocean below and the grand mountains behind. furthermore, the residence is characterized by a rectangle ‘infinity’ pool spanning into a natural panorama of sea and forest.all images courtesy of masao nishikawa
upon crossing the large entrance garden and entering the dwelling by apollo architects, the inhabitants face the centrally located kitchen with box-seat views towards the tranquil courtyard. the living-dining-kitchen area dominates the full width of the property while sliding transparent surfaces fulfill the requirements of privacy meeting the users’ needs. generous amounts of floor-to-ceiling glazing penetrate the facade, offering plenty of natural light to the interior while allowing a clear visual connection to the exterior scenery. furthermore, a jacuzzi bathroom ensures a pleasant aesthetic featuring sweeping views.
the second floor features private rooms as well as a full-width balcony including an outdoor jacuzzi, providing a different way to enjoy the stunning views. moreover, an exterior staircase leads to a rooftop terrace with concrete benches and 360-degree views across the mountains and ocean. ‘we strongly believe that as remote work is normalized and the nature of both work and lifestyles changes dramatically, maintaining residences in both urban and non-urban areas will become a standard option for people around the world who want to vary their lifestyle according to the seasons and other considerations.’ stated the studio.
‘most likely, homes will need to serve multiple functions, including as offices, hotels, guest houses, and galleries. the long-dominant model of the single-purpose ‘private home’ may well be giving way to a new kind of multi-purpose ‘public home’ along the lines of what we have conceived in this project.’
