the ‘AO studio’, ‘ao’ meaning ‘blue’ in japanese, is a renovated apartment for a professional couple that allows freedom, inspiration, and entertainment. by removing all partitions, keiji ashizawa design, has created a creative habitat for a pattern maker and restaurateur who primarily work from home. the built-in furniture and blue theme unify the space. for example, a bench seat serves as a step to a large outdoor patio that has an area that measures the size of the apartment itself.

a mix of both specialized areas, that reflect each of the clients’ practices, and lounge spaces bring a spatial quality of openness. the only hidden element is the bedroom which nestles behind a blue colored pod. the ‘ao studio’ link the comforts of home and an occupational atmosphere in a subtle manner.
