andy martin architecture (AMA) has completed the interior of ‘fucina’, an italian restaurant in london’s marylebone district. the eatery features a curved handcrafted brick ceiling that references the inside of a traditional pizza oven and forms a distinct focal point for diners. meanwhile, the floor, which has been carefully hand-laid using marble chips set into a traditional terrazzo cement border, has been designed to recall carlo scarpa’s olivetti showroom in venice.

inside fucina, andy martin has designed a colored glass and steel screen that stretches from floor to ceiling. raw materials such as brick, marble, timber, and burnt steel have been used throughout, referencing the translated name of the restaurant — ‘forge’ in italian. all furniture, lighting and ironmongery has been custom designed by AMA, with chairs fabricated from refined and machined branches.

owned by restaurateur kurt zdesar, fucina specializes in organic food ‘prepared in a contemporary way’. the lower-ground floor accommodates the chef’s table, which is surrounded by beaten steel walls and overlooks a traditional open-fire pit. see more restaurant interiors on designboom here.
